Rise and Shine, It’s Breakfast Time!

Why is breakfast the most important meal of the day?

Rise and Shine, It's Breakfast Time

Simply, a good, balanced breakfast provides the nutrients that people need to start their day off right.

Your brain and central nervous system run on glucose – this is the fuel you need to think, talk walk and carry on your daily life activities. After a good night’s sleep your glucose levels are at their lowest.

By skipping breakfast, your body has to work harder to break down stored carbohydrates, fats and protein to get it moving in the morning. Skipping breakfast to help with weight loss is a common mistake. In fact, the exact opposite will occur.

Going all morning without food means that by the time lunch comes around, you’re starving and are more likely to engage in a frenzy of overeating and poor food choices to satisfy your massive hunger.

Being over-hungry distorts the satiety signals produced by your body. These satiety signals regulate hunger and you practice a balanced diet, you prevent many serious diseases.

Skipping breakfast on a regular basis can affect your body’s sensitivity to insulin – the body’s most important blood sugar regulating hormone. Losing insulin sensitivity means you’re at a greater risk for Type 2 diabetes. Trust me this is not a nice condition to be afflicted with and is a preventable disease. Being a health-care practitioner myself, I have seen an increase in this type of condition in younger and younger people.

By following a healthy lifestyle, which means starting your day off right with a balanced, high-protein breakfast and eating smaller more frequent meals (every 2 -3 hours) throughout the day, combined with a regular exercise program can help you avoid this condition.

If you regularly skip breakfast, your risk of Insulin Resistance Syndrome, a pre-diabetic disorder, will increase by 50%.

Try adding a high quality protein shake like ISOFLEX to your breakfast or you can even incorporate some whey powder into your oatmeal. These are just two options to balance out those breakfasts that tend to be carb-heavy and void of sustainable nutrition. Check out our recipe section for great high-protein options.

Eating a healthy, high-protein breakfast every day will energize your body and feed your mind for a more productive day. Those who eat breakfast tend to have heightened mental concentration and a more positive outlook on life. And everybody loves to be around a happy person.
