Powerlifting at the IPL in Las Vegas 2011
As many of you know, we traveled to the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas last week for the 2011 IPL World Power Lifting Championships.
I weighed in at 180.2 lbs and competed in the 181 lbs open single ply division.
And I took first place!
The set-up, venue and organization of the contest were incredible and my hat is off to the United States Power Lifting Association (USPA) for hosting this event.
Here is a breakdown of my lifts that day:
- Squats: 535, 573, 606 lbs – 606 lbs was my best for day
- Bench: 385, 407, 423 lbs – 385 lbs was my best for the day – missed both 2nd and 3rd attempts at lock out, SO CLOSE!
- Deadlifts: 573, 617, 655 lbs – 617 lbs was my best for the day
Total: 1609 lbs – this was a 33 lbs personal record for me on my total.
I hit my goal for this meet in squats – was disappointed in my bench, but was pleased with my deadlift.
Every competition teaches me something. Upon reflection of this contest, I should have chosen a smaller jump for my third attempt in the deadlift, but I was chasing my "181 lbs elite total." NEXT TIME!

I am now prepping for my next competition on January 28, 2012 at the Los Angeles Fitness Expo Pro Power Lifting Invitational at the L.A. Convention Center.
