Pat Curran wins Bellator’s Featherweight $100K Summer Series with a crowning second-round KO kick to the head!
Knocking top 5 contender Marlon Sandro to the ground in a highlight reel moment in the cage last Saturday, Curran became the first Bellator fighter to win tournaments in two weight classes.
“It was a slow start in the first round. I was really trying to get my timing down and the distance down and just kind of feel him out a little bit, but I definitely got to say thanks to my corners, Jeff and Doug, they told me look low, go high and I did it and he landed right on his head!” Pat told SherDog.com after the fight.
Curran dropped as much as 10 lb for this fight to meet the 145-pound weight class and he’s in the best shape of his life:
“I feel great! This is definitely my weight class. I’m here to stay for a while.”
Despite top 5 contender Marlon Sandro’s undefeated status, Curran’s training in the gym and knowing his component and how he moves and having the stamina to wait for the right moment proves he’s the one to beat.
“Top 5 guy, he trains with some of the best in the world and he’s never been knocked out or submitted, so that’s a huge accomplishment for me and I’m ecstatic, I’m speechless.”
This tourney win gives Curran a title shot against current 145-pound champ Joe Warren.
