2012 Mr. Olympia Qualifiers (UPDATED)

In March of 2012 the IFBB Pro League, in conjunction with Joe Weider’s Olympia Weekend, announced the launch of a new points based system which would determine additional qualifiers for the six IFBB Pro divisions competing at the Olympia (Men’s Bodybuilding, Women’s Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure, Bikini, 212 Showdown).

In the past, qualifiers were determined by placing in the top spots at various competitions on the IFBB schedule. Based on the prominence of the tournament anywhere from 1 (or none) to 3 or 4 of the top finishers would qualify. This led to what some felt was an overcrowded stage, with as many as 28 competitors taking the stage in last year’s Bikini Division.

The new points system still takes a number of competition winners, but other qualifiers are determined based on an accruing points system. This system enables the more elite up-and-coming athletes, who can only compete every 4 or 5 months, to pick events where they can stack up against the very best, while still having a chance to appear in the Olympia. It also creates additional appeal for the  smaller venues whom would not have otherwise produced an Olympia contender.

The top 5 in the qualification standings will get an invite to the 2012 Olympia. In the event of a tie, the competitor with the best top five contest placings will be awarded the qualification.
