Congratulations to Team ALLMAX Athlete and Professional Fighter Douglas “The Phenom” Lima for his KO win against welterweight Ben Saunders in the second round of the Bellator 57 Main Event on Saturday night.
Ben Saunders had the leading edge on Lima going into this fight and showed his strength in the first round, snatching a body triangle to anchor top position. Lima persevered through the final 30 seconds of the round with Saunders in full mount, pummelling him with full elbow contact.
But it was Saunders’ south paw that got him into trouble during the second round. Just seconds into the second minute, Lima seized the moment he had been practicing all week:
“I knew it was there. We worked on that a lot last week: duck the left hook, come back with the right straight. It worked out great.”
Lima’s right punch brought Saunders to the ground and he finished him off with a brutal rally of hammerfists to the face, securing the victory and $100,000 for the match.
This victory puts Lima on a nine-fight winning streak and a shot at the title against Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren in Bellator’s sixth season next year.
